Quantitative evaluation on the effectiveness of services

Results from quantitative analyses revealed improvements in bodily functioning for patients as indicated by reduced pain and sleep difficulties, as well as improved psychosocial functioning as indicated by fewer family problems and reduced negative emotions. In addition to health-related functioning, both patients and caregivers reported better understanding about cancer and were less worried about death along the intervention period.

Analysis revealed the contributory factors to successful implementation of the project included:

  • sensitivity of service to patients’ various needs along the cancer journey;
  • attitude of Project team staff;
  • Outreach programme with extensive geographical coverage.
